Anybody else a fan of Richard Stanley's films? He's not made many but what I've seen have been pretty good (or could have been good). First off, he did Hardware, a sci-fi story about a killer robot, drug abuse, and a wandering Iggy Pop in a Blade Runner-ish future. Not exactly an original premise, but interesting in tone. Next up was Dust Devil, about an Aboriginal demonic force stalking humans under their noses... quite good, with a nice mythological take that Nightbreed fans will like. His final main film is the 90's remake of The Island of Dr. Moureu. He was kicked off his own film by ego-master Val Kilmer, and eventually he had to sneak back onto the film as a monster to see what they did to his film. And the great Marlon Brando, who was attracted to the film based on Stanley's script and personality, was reduced to acting wearing an ice-bucket on his head. Astounding. In any case, here's a cool site on his films and some of his research into voodoo (the credible kind of voodoo research, not poseur stuff). I'd love to have seen him finish The Great God Pan as a film though.... www.everythingisundercontrol.org/nagtloper/

My DVD's of Dust Devil - Director's Cut, and MARK13: Hardware - Red Edition arrived the other day, and they're every bit as good as i remember them. Shame Stanley has done little else. Cool soundtracks, decent scripts, loads of atmosphere - good stuff.

Just watched Dust Devil again, the director's cut, and boy is it incredible! And get this - from what I can tell, it was based on an actual serial killer who locals believed could shapechange... He's also got two films in the works... maybe one will get made this time! Also he's got a few short films online, like Sea of Perdition

two new films??? great news!! i LOVE Stanley's movies...
hahaha - this Vacation comment cracked me up: 'The British Film Council claimed it was the single most offensive screenplay they had ever laid eyes on'
Stanley plus Campbell? surefire genius! Think i'll rewatch Dust Devil DC too now - got some bank holiday hours to kill.

Don't forget to check out that Sea of Perdition if you can - it's very much a 70's sci-fi horror comic brought to life!
