Lord of Illusion, I've always felt, was pretty good... but not great. I like the cast, and the overall ideas behind the story (stage magic actually being real, ressurection cults, hiddle secrets, murder freaks cutting off their hair like Blue Sunshine), but at the same time, aspects turned me cold... the overall final confrontation wasn't as scary as it could have been - it would have been better if Swann had been more of a fighter before getting crumpled. And I think that the detective D'Amour was too emotionally drained for much of the story... if he had been a bit more gum-shoe like, and had more shown emotional investment, maybe it would have been a better film. I still like it... but I think it's the lesser of Clive Barker's directing efforts. What does anybody else think? And isn't D'Amour going to take on Pinhead in a book soon?

I saw this movie years ago on tv. From what I remember it had some pretty graphic parts, but like you said it really wasn't scary.

I heard that D'Amour is in "Everville" and he might be in the first Book of the Art "The Great and Secret Show" but I dunno I just started reading it. I loved the story "The Last Illusion" which was what the movie was based on but I don't think it could have been made directly into a 2 hour movie. I think the "Lord of Illusions" is a great film and it worked with what it could. I honestly don't know if D'Amour will be in "The Scarlet Gospels" but that'd sure be interesting!

Just bought the Director's Cut and a big bag of popcorn - i've not seen the film since it came out in the cinema!
