Very cool indeed! I watched this little gem last night, finally....
The tension is palpable, the suspense is extraordinary. The first hour and 20 minutes are slow, methodical, creepy and strange. The camera set-ups are brilliant, the score is great - it feels like the perfect late 70's early 80's horror film. Wonderful.
Unfortunately, the last 10 minutes descends into farcical running and screaming. The tension is cut, the suspense disipates and it becomes another by-the-numbers scare-flick. Characters end up doing silly things, when until that point they had maintained an all too eerie level of realism. The very last 30 seconds seem tacked on - a sort of sting in the tail that really isn't necessary. In fact, had the film ended 30 seconds earlier it would have blown me away.
All considered - rush out and find this film! It is very very cool. Thanks for the heads-up Darkglobe mate

Finally watched this myself.
I liked alot about it, but in the end I think it was a missed opportunity at greatness. LEt me discuss this in spoiler terms:
SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!
I think killing the friend in the car was too soon. In fact, think of how interesting having the friend back home to talk to on the phone might have made the overall film - somebody who was there, support, and eventually she could have actually arrived to try and save her friend only to be killed at the last minute.
I think drugging the pizza was too much, and it would have been scarier if, as she realized there were people in the house, she then encountered the family, who then could have cloriformed her.
The people changing the babysitting assignment was a missed opportunity. It was creepy the way they handled it - but with the great twist that they just killed somebody and took their house, and sacrificed them, how cool would it have been if the family just set up a couple of mannekins and told her the kids should sleep the whole night through.... and eventually, through her investigations of the house, she actually uncovers that there are no kids of any kind in the house (until she discovered the killed family at least).
I agree that the last fight (in the sacrifice room) didn't work, but I think it was either shot or edited poorly, the concept wasn't awful. And the final revelation is pretty darn week, and I wish that it could have been different... like maybe her suicide was just whatever the demon needed to take over her living body or something like that.
Great cinematography, great old house, and a fun, competent cast made this overall worthwhile. I may have to seek out other work by this director.
