I'm going back a bit old school here. I've just dug out my copy of the collected Books of Blood. I haven't read it in yeeeears. Anyone have any favourite stories from there?

It having been more years than I care to admit since last I read them, I had to take them from the shelf and refresh my memory before I could answer. Now I'll have to re-read them. lol. They're all incredibly entertaining. I need not convince anyone here of Clive Barker's literary prowess. My vote goes to "The Yattering And Jack"; lots of fun. Nothing can quite compare to a possessed Thanksgiving turkey. ;D ~ Cobweb

Oddly enough, the only book of his I've read is The Thief of Always (which is fantastic and I'll start a thread about it eventually). I've sampled other works of him, probably something from the Books of Blood, or something in a short story compilation, but they didn't quite grab me, for whatver reason.....

'The Thief of Always' is a wonderful book, I love Clive Barkers artwork so that really added to the story for me, it has been released as a four part graphic novel too which is really stunning. I haven't read the books of blood in years and I'm very tempted to go and get them out now. Just from memory I loved 'Rawhead Rex', I'm yet to see the film because, well, I hear it sucks. I do want to see it but I loved the story so much that I didn't want that ruined by the film just yet. I might read the story again before I watch the film. I remember a lot of the stories in 'the books of blood' being very good though. I'm going to sort out my copies now and have a read Oh and 'The Yattering And Jack', was so funny. It was also released as a graphic novel/comic which was just as amusing. The yattering was very cute though and as for the illustrations of the possessed turkey, they were just classic ;D

I remember they did an episode of, it was either Monsters or Tales from the Darkside, based on "Yattering". I don't remember if they did the turkey scene or not. I do remember the yattering was played by a midget. But then, it's been 100 years since I've seen that episode.
They really need to put those shows on DVD...

I just recently got into Clive Barker. Last Halloween I saw Hellraiser I and II on t.v. for the first time in a long time since my brother used to scare me with them. I ended up buying them on dvd. Now I've been reading a lot of his books. The first I read was "The Hellbound Heart" then I picked up a copy of "The Books of Blood" hard cover for $5 at a local used book store. I seriously think it's the best purchase I've ever made. My favorite story would be "Human Remains". Then I read "The Inhuman Condition". I heard that part of the movie "The Quicksilver Highway" was based on the story "The Body Polotic" but I haven't seen the movie yet. Then I read "Cabal" and I had so much fun with that I raced out to find the movie "Nightbreed" which is why I guess I'm here ;D. Right now I'm in the middle of "The Great and secret Show" and it's getting good . I read "The Theif of Always" when I was younger and didn't even know who Clive Barker was and now I want to read it again. I remember for a young adult book it had some really scary parts!
