(Off Topic: Hey, the smileys have improved! lol)
When was the last time YOU watched Nightbreed? Just the other day, actually. I hate most mundane television and watch alot of DVDs.
1) Did you notice anything you had forgotten? a) The card that gets stuck to the knife protruding through Boone's chest during his final battle with Decker in Midian. I'm still debating whether that was intended to be representative of something, or just fun.
b) The blue object, (looks like it might be a book bag?), laying on the ground behind Boone in the scene where he confronts Decker for the first time in above-ground Midian, (the scene where he saves Lori's life).
- Obviously unintentionally included during filming. lol.
c) The dimly-lit room where Decker listens to a recording of Boone talking about Midian, from a psychiatric session. Where
is that room anyhow? Is it supposed to be part of Decker's home?
d) The pythons on Midian's steps when Lori follows Rachel and the others down. Pythons would be sunning themselves where it's warm. They make a great effect, though; and maybe the 'Breed feed them rats to give them incentive to stay underground. lol.
2) Any new insight into the film since you last saw it?a) From the perspective of the budget constraints during filming; they seem to be alot more obvious now than they were ten years ago.
b) Having read "Imagica" I can see alot of parallels between the two stories; the concept of a "savior" who doesn't fit mainstream society's idea of one, the possibility that the God we hear about every day and particularly some of the acts carried out in His name might be a great deal less than virtuous, and death being a mere bridge to cross.
c) I think Narcisse is gay, or bi. lol. In the scene where Onaka is following Lori through Midian and passes Narcisse, Narcisse complements his tattoos and says "sailors" with an eye roll. Furthermore, I think he may have followed Boone up to save Lori and persue Decker because he likes him. lol. Not that it's a negative thing at all, it's just so subtle that I didn't think about it until I'd read Imagica.
3) Anything in particular really funny/sexy/gory/wonderful?a) The scene that introduces us to Peloquin remains my favorite. As it is the only video clip from the film here, I'm guessing that I'm not alone.
b) The scene where Narcisse is dancing with the mummified corpse of what may have been a bride. I just love it; funny yet morbid. He's dead and so is his dancing partner, yet he's animated a full of good humor while she's obviously just the physical shell of a long-departed person. Is this scene symbolic of of something, or just for fun?
c) Eigermann's line "Not lyin' down dead, my friend, walkin' around in my f*cking cell dead!" ; it's funny every time I hear it.
4) Can you read anything in the film as being about an event/ideology/personality that struck you as being very accurate?a) The obvious. What mainstream society sees as "evil" most generally isn't. As someone once said "What's legal is not always right, what's right is not always legal". You can't judge a book by it's cover.
b) Maybe, with the preacher so obviously "lost" and the dead not necessarily in need of an afterlife in the typical sense, that being accepted by the mainstream God is not necessary for eternal life or salvation.
